1.What will be the game be like in in the future? 2.What feature am I looking forward to and why? 3.What is my greatest fear for the game?
1. With the invent of technology like google glass, transparent displays and its ilk, I see Eve branching out into these... venues of sorts.... as it has with Dust, its console cousin.
2. What I would really like to see going forward, is some semblance of an app, be it google, be it ipod'ness, be it whatever new peripheral comes down the pipe. But this app would enable you to talk to your corp, as well as monitor and alter your training queue, market orders, and perhaps even industrial, planetary and scientific endeavors, and I see the folks behind Eve being epicly badass and not even trying to get their greed on by charging extra for this application.
I would also look forward to the capability of training all the characters on my account simultaneously without getting bilked for more subscription fees. My account is old, but I've only put in approximately two months of play time, but I realize that since 'grinding for experience' isn't a valid concept in eve, it allows experience to be less of a competitive factor. And in light of that, in light of how experience is based on elapsed time, it would just be excellent to train all three characters in tandem, for the price of a single subscription. Not everybody has a ton of friends in Eve, it would be nice to have a single account that one could cover all the bases with.
Something else I would look forward to, some capability to compress time between one's own account, and a friend's account who recently entered the game - so that the eve-fresh friend can get some semblance of accelerated training to catch up with the friend that recruited them. The caveat would be that multiboxers would probably use this to their advantage, the software would have to compare mac addresses to make sure "friends" weren't playing on the same computer.
And I see long-distance teleporation in the future, where one can transport goods from one planet to another, one base to another, one ship to another.
Another superb addition I would look forward to, and I notice tons of games do this and it's a pity, but Eve... needs m0ar item icons. Eve has some awesome artists, they should invest some time into making new item icons. Right now they seem stretched a bit thin, imo a robust and complex game like Eve, should nearly have a unique icon for every single item. It adds to the wonder factor, a bit to the artistic factor, and it adds an additional element of desire to items (... as goofy as it sounds, items with 'pretty' or 'badass' icons would be more desirable). And it would make it easier to differentiate between items in the same category.
And another addition that would be excellent, perhaps another flavor of wormhole or stargate, that extends into far reaching clusters of constellations that would exist far off the map of the known galaxy. Perhaps a discovery of some ancient gate that a splinter group of sleepers created to set up shop in a smaller, different and far flung galaxy. Where perhaps even another faction of creatures live, or multiple factions even.
I'd like to see a greater level of planetary interaction. As things stand, its possible to set up shop on a planet, harvest the local materials and perform manufacturing on the ground, it would be nice if more items were available per planet, and it would be nice to set up some sort of starbase above the ground base, rather than resorting to customs offices. This way if Eve ever gets the capability to launch ground attacks on manufacturing bases, the orbiting base can have offensive and defensive measures to retaliate with.
3. My greatest fear, changes to what Eve represents. I've seen other games alter their mechanics, alter their foundation concepts... all in an effort to become appealing to other audiences. Eve trying to conform scares me.
And subscription price hikes give me the spooks as well. :)
